Plan the BEST trip to Photograph Puffins on Mykines Island!
If you’re passionate about wildlife photography, especially capturing puffins in their natural habitat, Mykines Island in the Faroe Islands is a must-visit. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit the Faroe Islands twice now, and I can confidently say that the Mykines day trip is one of the highlights of any photographer’s journey there.
Lumix S9 Review (For Every Day Carry Fans!)
The Lumix S9 Camera is an interesting, flawed, camera. There's pros and cons to this camera, and it isn't for everyone. Is it for you?
I tried to learn to FPV in 14 days
Flying FPV has become such a passion of mine. Here is a video all about my first 14 days getting to grips with it in sunny Sardinia!
My Photography wrap-up for 2019 // Best Photos and what I've learned
I guess this is a bit of a late wrap-up but here we are! I think it’s so valuable to look back on your work over time and see where you’ve improved. One of the things I love most about photography is that there is always something more to learn. It’s always important to keep pushing forward. Even if it makes looking at your older photos a bit uncomfortable at times!
So here are some of my favourite images — and things I’ve learned — over the past year in photography
I’ll do “in no particular order” until I get to number 1 because I definitely have one in mind! And I’ll stick to my own personal projects rather than weddings.
A (much better than average) week in the life of a wedding photographer
What a week! I shot a beautiful castle wedding at Blairquhan castle Castle in Scotland, then with only a day in between I was off to Switzerland for the Evolve wedding videography retreat.
American Road Trip #3 - Camping in Monument Valley, Hunts Mesa - astrophotography
Hold on to your hats, guys. This is where the good stuff is. We camped out overnight in Monument Valley, in Hunts Mesa, with a Navajo guide. The views. THE VIEWS! Wow! Honestly one of the best experiences of my life. I even got a little bit of astrophotography done. In the end. Even if it was at 1am when I woke up for a wee.
American Road Trip - part #2 — Zion National Park, Las Vegas
I’ve been to Zion national park twice before, and until I went to Yosemite it was my favourite national park. Zion is blummin’ stunning. It has a bit of everything — red desert stone, green trees, blue water. It’s great.
This time we decided to do a nice simple walk called the Canyon Overlook Trail. It’s just about a mile round trip. The view at the end is just… amazing. It’s about as good as Angel’s Landing and you don’t have to kill yourself to see it.
American Road Trip - part #1 — Sequoia National Park and Yosemite
Two weeks.
7 national parks over 4 states.
2200 miles driven.
Hopefully a lot of nice photos to show for it! I took with me my Lumix GH5, and my Lumix S1, with a handful of lenses. Because clearly I don’t value my own back, or take heed to luggage allowances. I totally over-packed. But hey! I am a Nerd.
Sardinia - Photos and Tales
After visiting Sardinia in 2017 for my lovely friends’ beach wedding (omg it was stunning), they invited us back for a little holiday with them. So of course we jumped at the chance.
Despite visiting Sardinia twice now, I feel like I’ve only experienced a small portion of the island, and there’s so much left to explore. It’s a place I see myself coming back to time and time again, not just because it’s BEAUTIFUL, but also because of the memories I’ve made there with the people I love.
Photography: Why you should ALWAYS charge what you're worth
The photography industry is a funny old beast. Of course, you have your absolute prodigy’s — as you do in any industry — but the rest of us? I reckon it’s all smoke and mirrors.
What I mean is, once you’re good — like, good enough to charge for your work, you know your stuff inside out, you’re prepared, you’re a boss — how do we really differentiate one photographer from the next? Why does one photographer charge £5000 a day, and another £500?
10 Ways To Make Money Online as a Creator
I’ve been making money with my camera and Internet connection solely now for about two years. I quit my Day Job to pursue photography — mostly wedding photography to begin with, which I still do — but during the winter months I sort of fell in love with figuring out other revenue streams.
Because there’s not a better feeling on the planet than randomly making money while you’re in your PJs watching Netflix. And that’s the power of passive income. Needless to say, I’m a fan. So here are 10 revenue streams that I use and make money from. And you can too!
My Top 10 Photos of the year (Micro Four Thirds)
I think 2018 has been a great year for my photography outside of my commissioned work. I’ve evolved my colour grading quite a bit, and I think — even through sheer practice and time spent on photography — my skills have improved quite a bit.
That’s one of the reasons why I love photography so much: There’s always room to improve. There’s always a new skill to learn, a new technique to try, a new project to take on.
Isn’t that all a bit cool?
I’ve decided to keep this list to my “passion project” photography — as in, not any commissioned wedding or portrait work. I may make a seprate list for that.
Anyway, without further any more waffling, here are my top 10 images of 2018.
10k Subscriber giveaway!
Well wow!
My little corner of the internet, the Micro Four Nerds YouTube channel, just hit 10k subscribers! I know this isn’t a lot compared to many other bigger channels, but I’m so proud!
Is Micro Four Thirds DEAD?
So rumour has it Panasonic are about to release a full frame flagship camera at the end of the month. Half of me is so excited. I love new, innovative technology.
I also love the micro four thirds system with all my heart and I am of course concerned with what might lie ahead. Here are my thoughts.
Wedding Season is CRAZY! - Little life update
I've been a wedding photographer since 2012, and a wedding videographer more recently since 2016. It is, absolutely, the most rewarding job I've ever had. Every day is completely different. There are crazy times, where you're rushed off your feet and losing your hair, and then there are times when you haven't had a job in weeks and you're wondering whether it was all some sort of fever-dream after all.
Why people should care a lot less about The Next Big Thing
Photography seems to me sometimes… a bit of a measuring competition (if you get my drift). Not that us micro four thirds users aren’t guilty of gear obsession - have you seen how many lenses I currently own! - but I do think, on the whole, the gear-heads tend to gravitate to full frame setups.
A Brief History of Micro Four Nerds
Just a quick blog to say WOOOO!
When I posted my first video to my YouTube channel on March 7th 2017, I was aiming to gain 100 subscribers within a year. That was my wildest dream goal. I thought, who the hell would want to listen to me rant and rave about cameras online?!
